Best Chocolate Chip Cookies in all the land

With the holidays coming, I decided it’s time to let you in on our family’s secret chocolate chip cookie recipe. If you are lucky, I will also share my mother in laws super secret broccoli salad recipe at the end of the blog…Jan, if you are reading, it is just too good to not share!!

Keeping this post short and simple…so here we go!

You’ll need:

*2 and 1/4 cups all purpose flour

*1 tsp. baking soda

*1 tsp. salt

*2 sticks butter {softened}

*3/4 cup granulated sugar

*3/4 packed brown sugar

*1 tsp. vanilla extract

*2 large eggs

*1 and 2/3 cup chocolate chips

Preheat: oven to 375F

Combine: flour, baking soda and salt in a small bowl. Beat butter, sugar, brown sugar and vanilla in a larger mixing bowl until creamy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Gradually beat in flour mixture. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by rounded tablespoon onto uncreased baking sheets.

Bake: 9-11 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on baking sheet for 2 minutes before transferring to wire rack to cool completely.

Yep, that’s pretty much how I look and feel making these bad boys.

Ok, ok…now before I get sued by Nestle for stealing their recipe…yes this is indeed the recipe that is on the back of the bag of chocolate chips. BUT we have one way that we edit this recipe that makes a HUGE difference!!

Instead of adding 1 2/3 cups of chocolate chips, we add every damn chocolate chip in the whole house. I’m talking milk chocolate chips, mini chips, white chocolate chips…hell throw in some peanut butter chips. Only makes it better.

And yes we probably divvy it out and eat half the dough and only make half the actual cookies.

And yeah so my secret recipe isn’t anything fancy and won’t likely end up on a cooking blog or actually a secret…but I promise these cookies are freaking delicious. And not complicated. Just trust.

Now, ever since I have been included in Gill family Thanksgivings, I have eaten my fill of my mother in law’s broccoli salad. After a couple years, I asked for the recipe which she informed me was also a secret family recipe.

It wasn’t until I was married in, that she filled me in.

Wal-Mart’s deli.

Yep. She bought it. Every year. Just put in her own bowl.

It was then that I knew without a doubt I belonged in this family. #mypeople.

Happy baking friends!
