Happy Smileversary Beau

Today is a special day in our home.

It’s Bowie’s Smileversary! And boy, we are celebrating big by seeing how many times we can get this kid to smile today!!

For those that don’t know, our Beau was born with a cleft lip and palate. You can read about: him as a baby, about his cleft {this was the one picked up by the Post}, and about his 1 year post-palate repair here. You can also read about what a fun loving little guy he is here on a post about his 2nd birthday.

One year ago, Beau underwent his first surgery and his lip was repaired…

And while everyone is quick to say how amazing the surgery was and how great he looks, a small part of my heart will forever miss this grin.

This was the face I met the day he was born. This was the face that stole my heart. And this was the face that everyday reassures me that no matter what lies ahead, everything will be ok.

Today, we celebrate what this cookie has gone through and where we are right now.

Sharing this video the Post made and a whole lotta Bowie smiles so just keep on-a-scrollin’ and know that “where there is great love, there are always miracles”.

Beau has almost all of his teeth now, and won’t have to undergo another surgery until he is around 7 years old. He continues to see his cleft team at St. Louis Children’s every fall, and sees a speech therapist once a week! And he is pretty much the coolest kid around.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend! I will be soaking up a few more days with my family! Such a treat for us! If you live far, or live close, make time together a priority!

Keep on smiling peeps!

xoxo

Wow is all I have to say!!! Unbelievable! I’ve been reading your blog, but had no idea beau had undergone this. Amazing. What a great blessing and great doctors. Plus, obviously great parents!! Very inspiring ☺

I also have a cleft lip and palate child. He wore a NAM, is 9 now and doing great. Still awaiting another surgery for other reasons. Your post brought back so many memories. He is precious!
